Green Roof Systems
Green roofs are becoming increasingly popular. There are environmental benefits as a planted roof absorbs air pollutants and reduces surface water run-off into overloaded drain systems. Green roof planting also reduces the heat-island effect found in cities. On flat roof buildings a green roof provides valuable recreational space.
Extensive green roofs have a thin growing medium (usually of sedum) and require minimal maintenance, without irrigation. Intensive green roofs have a deep growing medium that enables trees and shrubs to be planted.
In both cases a tough, highly durable waterproofing substrate is essential. Polyroof membranes are the ideal solution being rot-proof and completely impervious to root penetration, thanks to the flexible, fibreglass reinforced polymer matrix.
